Title: Design products with your hands

Abstract: The paper presents the initial results of a research project aiming at developing a shape modelling system that take advantage from both virtual and physical prototypes oriented to conceptual design of industrial design products.
The system allows designers to easily create, modify and evaluate shapes of products by interacting with a virtual model through a haptic tool operated with their hands, as well as they do in reality using physical craft tools. Differently from handmade prototyping techniques used in reality, the system allows users to obtain at the end of the modelling phase a digital model of the product that can be directly used in the downstream phases of the product development process.
