Motivation:
- Today, industrial designers are used to produce physical models of products by modeling and manipulating clay using their manual existing skill. Physical modeling is an expensive practice, requires time and does not produce digital models.
- Current CAIDS/CAD technology is complex to learn and to use, and is more oriented to technical engineers than to creative designers. Moreover, designers do not have any physical contact with the created model.
Aim:
- The T’nD project aims at improving the conceptual design process and enabling tools by developing an innovative system for free-form shape modeling, generation and modification based on novel haptic interfaces and intelligent shape manipulation operators. The T’nD system allows designers to create virtual shapes in a way similar to clay model making, to create and evaluate the surface using vision and touch, to exploit designers’ manual skills.
